    Trail-Heel-Up Finish Drill

    Make a full swing and hold your finish, checking that your trail heel is fully off the ground and your trail toe is just tapping for balance. Almost all your weight should sit on a firm, straight lead leg. If the trail foot stays planted or you rock backward, the shift never completed.

    Set up with your lead hip a few inches from a wall or an alignment stick stuck in the ground. As you start down, "bump" that lead hip laterally toward the target so it lightly touches the wall, then keep rotating and clearing left.     Hold a club out at chest height and make level baseball-style swings, stepping into each one as if hitting a pitch.     Place a small board, book, or rolled towel just outside each foot. In the backswing, press the outside of your trail foot into the trail board; in the downswing, drive off it and press the outside of your lead foot into the lead board. Feeling that push-and-plant against a firm object teaches you to use the ground rather than hang back.
